Adoption requirements

Deciding to adopt a pet is an exciting time for many families.  We would like to make this process as simple as possible. Here are a few things to keep in mind before you come in to find your new family member.

  • You must be 18 years or older to adopt.

  • We ask that you discuss adopting with all adults in the home.

  • We reserve the right to review all applications before an animal is adopted. If an animal has had multiple applications submitted, we may need additional time to review all applications.

  • In order to find the perfect match, we will not hold an animal for you, nor will we adopt out the animal on a first come, first served basis.

  • In some instances, adoptions may occur the same day the application is submitted (in person) and you are a match for the animal.

What to bring to your adoption appointment

  • If planning to adopt a dog please bring a leash and collar. If you do not have one, we may be able to provide one for you.

  • If planning to adopt a cat please bring a carrier.

  • A current photo ID and method of payment. We accept cash, checks, debit and credit cards.

  • If you have another dog at your home and are applying to adopt another dog, we may ask that you bring your dog in for a meet and greet. This meet and greet will likely be at a separate appointment. We do not advise that you bring your dog in for a meet and greet until it has been arranged with shelter staff.

  • If you have a dog at home and you are applying to adopt a cat, you will not be asked to bring your dog in for a meet and greet.
